Life after you lose your Mom

Losing my mother was one of the most difficult experiences I have ever faced. She was not only my parent, but also my friend, confidant, and support system. Her passing left a gaping hole in my life that I still struggle to fill. Every day, I am reminded of her absence, whether it's a smell that reminds me of her signature perfume, a song that we used to listen to together, or a milestone that she would have been proud to witness. But despite the sadness and grief, I carry her memory with me always. She taught me so much about love, kindness, and resilience, and I know that she would want me to keep moving forward and living life to the fullest.Coming up on the first anniversary of my own mothers death and so many thoughts race through my head. Grief fills my heart and it is heavy. If you mom is no longer with you, I know that yours is as well.

There is no expiration date on grieving for your mother. This will last for the rest of our lives.

Self-Care While Grieving
Grieving is an arduous journey that requires immense strength and patience. Amidst the pain and sorrow, prioritizing self-care becomes even more crucial. Taking care of yourself during this challenging period is a way to honor and nurture the healing process. It involves allowing yourself to feel emotions and acknowledging the pain, while also practicing self-compassion. Engaging in gentle activities such as journeling, meditating, or taking soothing baths can provide moments of solace. Using scented candles like our Story Hills Candle Co. creations can add an extra layer of comfort and relaxation. For me, I created our “Escape” candle to honor my mamma, she loved the smell of coconut so very much, it brought her peace in the final days, it was her escape - even if for just a few hours at a time from.

Surround yourself with supportive and understanding loved ones and friends is vital, as their presence can offer solace and a listening ear without judgment. Remember to nourish your body with nutritious food, and try and get enough sleep, as grief can take a toll on physical well-being. In essence, engaging in self-care during the grieving process is a way to cultivate resilience, find moments of peace, and ultimately pave the way towards healing.
